IFAC was established in 1977 as the global federation for the accountancy profession. Its founding mission, which guides IFAC’s work today, is to serve the public interest by developing high quality international standards, promoting their adoption and use, and contributing to the profession’s growth and development around the world. World Accountancy WeekIFAC and its members and associates around the globe celebrated World Accountancy Week on December 2-8, 2007.
Global Leadership SurveyDuring World Accountancy Week, IFAC released the results of its first annual Global Leadership Survey of the Presidents and Chief Executives of its members, associates, and regional accountancy bodies. The survey results highlight issues that the accountancy profession will be addressing in the coming year, as well as national and regional perspectives on economic growth and the profession’s role in contributing to that growth. 115 IFAC member bodies and associates from 91 countries, as well as six regional accountancy bodies, participated in the survey. A summary of findings and a breakdown of results by question are available. IFAC HistoryAs part of its 30th anniversary activities, IFAC has published a history of the organization, IFAC: 30 Years of Progress – Encouraging Quality and Building Trust, which explores the role of member bodies and others in IFAC’s growth and the issues that impacted its development. 2007 IFAC Council SeminarDuring the November 2007 IFAC Council meeting in Mexico City, an anniversary seminary was held on The Financial Reporting Environment in the 21st Century. Presentations focused on such topics as business reporting models of the future, the state of public sector financial reporting, and effective regulation.
